Located in the heart of Switzerland, Interlaken is situated along the Aare river, in the Bernese Oberland. The city is famous for the plethora of adventures that it offers. Below is a comprehensive overview of a few adrenaline-pumping activities.
Canyon Swing
Located just 25 minutes outside the heart of Interlaken in Grindelwald, this glacial canyon swing is not for the faint of heart. As you jump off the platform high above the Lütschine River you will free fall nearly 300ft, just barely missing the water below. You will then swing at a speed of 75 mph within the canyon.
It costs roughly $125 for one person, and it is important to note that the minimum age requirement is 14. This is a truly unique experience in the Swiss Alps.
Canyoning
Have you ever wanted to experience hiking, swimming, rock climbing, and rappelling simultaneously? Well, canyoning is a sport that combines just that, and it is a sport which allows travelers to experience the natural beauty of the Swiss Alps uniquely.
Do be aware that your adrenaline will be at an all-time high as you will be immersed in frigid glacier water and will be jumping off and sliding down natural water slides.
Unlike the canyon swing, canyoning can be partaken in at all ages. This flexibility is due to the canyoning rating system which describes the difficulty. One is the lowest difficulty rating, typically only entailing hiking, while four is the highest difficulty rating, typically entailing complex rope work and very tight spaces.
With many different guided canyoning experiences offered, most typically charge around $175 per person for a few hour adventure.
Paragliding
In the skies above Interlaken, paragliding will take you on a breathtaking journey over Lake Brienz and Lake Thun with views of the Jungfrau region.
With a minimum age requirement of six years old, paragliding could be an activity for the whole family. With many different companies offering paragliding, the average fly time is twenty minutes for an average cost of $200. A maximum altitude of 6600 feet is reached.
This activity is a change of pace from the previous two activities due to the serenity that it offers. If you’re looking for a less adrenaline- pumping adventure, then paragliding may be for you.
