Located on New Zealand’s North Island in The Coromandel, a popular peninsula known for its picturesque beaches and vast forests, lies Hot Water Beach, a unique beach where you can dig your own hot tub.
Beneath Hot Water Beach lies a geo-thermal river containing mineral infused water that flows into the Pacific Ocean, allowing for these hot springs like hot tubs to be dug.
It is best to arrive at the beach during low tide, so make sure to plan ahead to avoid not being able to enjoy soaking in your own hot tub. It is important to note that this beach is commonly crowded, so it is best to visit during the weekdays if possible.
Once you arrive at the beach, look for bubbles as they are good indicators of where to start digging. The amount of time you will spend digging will vary depending on how big you would like your hot tub to be. Some people dig hot tubs big enough just for one person and others dig hot tubs big enough for an entire group of people.
Luckily, it does not cost anything to partake in relaxing in your own hot tub and the only time you will have to leave is when the tide starts to come in.
